CELPIP-General conversion table
| CELPIP score in an ability | CLB level |
|---|---|
| 10, 11 or 12 | CLB 10 or higher for CRS scoring |
| 9 | CLB 9 |
| 8 | CLB 8 |
| 7 | CLB 7 |
| 6 | CLB 6 |
| 5 | CLB 5 |
| 4 | CLB 4 |
Apply the conversion separately to speaking, listening, reading and writing. For example, CELPIP results of 9, 8, 10 and 7 become CLB 9, 8, 10 and 7—not a single averaged level.
Why CLB 9 matters
CLB 9 in all four first-language abilities can unlock the higher column of education and foreign-work skill-transferability awards. If even one ability is CLB 8, those combinations use the lower column.
Which CELPIP test does IRCC accept?
For Express Entry, IRCC requires CELPIP-General. Confirm that the test type and result validity match the official requirements. Results must be less than two years old when you complete your profile and when you submit a permanent-residence application.
CRS language points are awarded per ability, and combination thresholds often require a minimum in every ability.
