Do not enter the IELTS overall band
A profile can have four different CLB levels. For example, listening 8.0 converts to CLB 9 while reading 6.5 converts to CLB 8.
Why CLB 9 matters
CLB 9 in all four first-language abilities can materially change both direct language points and skill-transferability combinations. One ability below CLB 9 may place a combination in a lower transferability band, so convert each result carefully.
Which IELTS test is accepted?
IRCC requires IELTS General Training for Express Entry. IELTS Academic is not accepted for this purpose, and IRCC currently states that IELTS One Skill Retake is not accepted for Express Entry.
How to use the conversion
- Find the row reached by each individual IELTS ability.
- Record four separate CLB levels.
- Enter those levels—not raw bands—into the CRS calculator.
- Confirm the result against the current IRCC equivalency chart before submitting a profile.
