Estimate settlement funds in CAD and PKR
This tool uses IRCC’s published minimums. The PKR amount is a planning conversion, not an official exchange rate.
Includes you and every family member IRCC requires you to count, even if some are not accompanying you.
Who needs proof of funds?
Proof of funds is normally required to meet the minimum requirements of the Federal Skilled Worker Program and Federal Skilled Trades Program. IRCC says you generally do not need it when applying under the Canadian Experience Class, or when you are authorized to work in Canada and have a valid job offer. Follow the instructions for the program under which you are invited.
How to count your family size
Include yourself, your spouse or common-law partner, your dependent children, and your spouse or partner’s dependent children. IRCC says these people must still be counted if they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents, or if they are not accompanying you to Canada.

You do not pay this money to IRCC. It must remain legally available to you for settlement. Keep government fees and preparation expenses separate in your budget.
What the bank letter must show
IRCC requires official letters from each bank or financial institution where funds are held. The letter should be on institutional letterhead and include contact information, your name, outstanding debts, account numbers, opening dates, current balances and the average balance for the previous six months.
- The money must be available when you apply and when a permanent resident visa is issued.
- Borrowed money cannot be used as settlement funds.
- Equity in property cannot be used as proof.
- A joint account with an accompanying spouse may be counted.
- Money held only in a spouse’s account may be accepted if you prove access.
Converting the amount into Pakistani rupees
There is no permanent official PKR amount because exchange rates move. Use the rate offered by the bank or exchange provider you expect to use, and maintain a reasonable buffer. The calculator begins with a rounded planning rate of PKR 196 per CAD based on recent mid-2026 market references; replace it with a current rate before making a financial decision.
Common Pakistan applicant mistakes
- Counting only the relatives who will travel instead of the complete family size required by IRCC.
- Depositing a large unexplained amount immediately before requesting the bank letter.
- Treating the minimum as a fee that must be transferred to an agent.
- Using an old PKR conversion after the CAD/PKR rate has changed.
- Letting the declared amount fall below the minimum while the application is in process.
