The four CRS sections

The first three sections produce a maximum of 600 points. Additional factors can provide up to another 600, making the overall maximum 1,200.
Core or human-capital points
These points reflect the principal applicant’s age, education, official-language proficiency and eligible Canadian work experience. Candidates without an accompanying spouse can receive up to 500 core points. Candidates with an accompanying spouse can receive up to 460, with up to 40 points available from their partner’s factors.
Skill-transferability points
Transferability rewards combinations rather than a single credential. Examples include education combined with strong language results, foreign experience combined with language or Canadian experience, and a qualifying trade certificate combined with language. The entire section is capped at 100 points even if individual combinations total more.
Additional points
- Provincial or territorial nomination: up to 600 points.
- French-language proficiency: 25 or 50 points when the stated conditions are met.
- Eligible Canadian post-secondary education: 15 or 30 points.
- Eligible sibling in Canada: 15 points.
IRCC removed the former 50- and 200-point job-offer awards on March 25, 2025. A job offer can still matter for eligibility in some programs, but it should not be added to the CRS total.
A score is not the same as eligibility
The CRS ranks profiles that are eligible for at least one Express Entry program. A high estimated score does not itself prove program eligibility, admissibility or that an invitation will be issued.
